There have been many changes made in the last several years to welder training in Ontario.  In 2003, The Ministry of Training made it possible to test for an Interprovincial Red Seal (indicates acheivement of standards established under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act), however, there are few institutions set up to administer the traditional apprenticeship style training in Ontario which other provinces have been using to train and prepare welders for this test for many years.

As a result of this, there are several options available for those interested in receiving trades based welder training.  These include 2-3 year college programs or apprenticeships with the Iron Workers Union.

Canadian Welding Bureau certifications/tickets are necessary in CWB certified shops, and suggested for all other applications.

In 2008 Heather was offered a position with Loyalist College School of Skills Training in Belleville Ontario.  She is pleased to be part of the Loyalist team and is currently teaching introductory level welding instruction for the Mechanical, Manufacturing Techniques and Welding Programs.
